Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation
FAQ
BOTH Laser/IPL HAIR REMOVAL AND SKIN REJUVENATION REQUIRE THE SAME PROCESS ALTHOUGH DIFFERENT SETTINGS
The applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated
HAIR REMOVAL
The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis
SKIN REJUVENATION
- Excess pigmentation will be reduced in the treatment area
- Redness will be reduced in the treatment area
- Skin texture and pore size will be improved, the skin will look younger and brighter
- Between 1 and 3 treatments are generally recommended to reduce pigmentation, but for collagen stimulation a longer course of treatments is recommended for optimum results
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and any hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Unwanted reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.
Prior to treatment, a consultation is conducted in which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Before treatment commences you must provide written consent and a small test patch will be carried out.
HAIR
Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but With standard Laser hair removal treatments, you can feel what is described as a ‘hot flick’ of an elastic band during treatment. Skin is cooled prior to treatment to help reduce any discomfort. Typically 6 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.
SKIN REJUVENATION
Between 1 and 3 treatments are generally recommended to reduce pigmentation, but for collagen stimulation a longer course of treatments is recommended for optimum results
Most people are suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation with your clinician to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment. Book in for Electrolysis if you want to permanently remove white or grey hairs.
During the treatment the light that comes through the hand piece will be attracted to the excess melanin or pigment in your skin. This will cause a heat reaction within the melanin in the skin cells. This causes a phototoxic reaction which will break down the melanin in the skin cell, and they will gradually come away from the skin. The light is also attracted to the superficial blood vessels in the skin, reducing diffuse redness and stimulating collagen production in the dermis.
